Job summary

SSAB in Mobile, AL is seeking an EMO Technical Level 1.5 to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, and networks. You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and project teams to reduce downtime and enhance equipment reliability while supporting cost-effective automation actions.

The role requires 2–3 years in industrial automation, strong troubleshooting, and the ability to apply engineering judgment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
2-3 years in industrial automation and PLC programming.
Experience with motor drives, instrumentation, control devices, and maintenance systems.
Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and automation issues.
Ability to apply engineering judgment and analytical problem-solving.
Willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
Strong organizational and project management skills.

Responsibilities

Maintain and support automation equipment, PLCs, HMIs, networks, and control systems.
Design, document, implement, and backup PLC code and HMI applications.
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, vendors, and project teams to reduce downtime.
Troubleshoot automation and process issues, identify root causes, implement corrective actions.
Lead or support automation and continuous improvement projects focused on reliability and safety.
Plan automation work for outages and coordinate resources.
Provide technical guidance to maintenance and operations staff and contractors.
Develop safe job procedures and lockout revisions with maintenance teams.
