Job summary

SMS group GmbH is seeking an Automation Engineer Level 1 Systems for Pickle Lines in Pittsburgh, PA. You will program, test, and commission Level 1 control systems for new installations in the metals industry, contributing to world-class automation across global markets with a collaborative engineering team.

The role requires travel for integration testing in Germany and for commissioning in Louisiana, USA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering role in metals or a similar industry.
• Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers.
• Experience with Logicad and/or Siemens TIA Portal preferred.
• Pickle Line and/or Rolling Mill process knowledge preferred.
• Willing to travel to support the project work; Germany for integration tests and Louisiana for commissioning.
• Problem solving skills especially under time pressure during commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Design and implementation of Level 1 control systems based on project requirements, SMS standards and similar reference projects.
• Perform Level 1 control system programming based on the function descriptions for the equipment related to the project.
• Collaborate with project management, mechanical, and Level 2 engineering teams.
• Participate in integration testing of the control system before shipment to the job site.
• Conduct on site commissioning and startup of Level 1 control systems for new plant installations.
• Train customer personnel in maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Service existing systems remotely and on-site interfacing with internal engineers and resources from other groups and locations.
• Supervision received is mostly administrative, with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
