Job summary

SMS group is seeking a Level 1 Engineer to design, program, test, and commission Level 1 control systems for Hot Strip Mills and related rolling mill installations worldwide. You will work with a collaborative engineering team on projects across global markets.

You will travel to sites, with integration testing in Germany and commissioning in Louisiana, USA. The role requires hands-on programming, testing, and customer training to ensure smooth startup and ongoing support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an engineering role in metals or a similar industry.
• Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers; Siemens TIA Portal preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and implementation of Level 1 control systems based on project requirements, SMS standards and similar reference projects.
• Perform Level 1 control system programming based on the function descriptions for the equipment related to the project.
• Collaborate with project management, mechanical, and Level 2 engineering teams.
• Participate in integration testing of the control system before shipment to the job site.
• Conduct on site commissioning and startup of Level 1 control systems for new plant installations.
• Train customer personnel in maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Service existing systems remotely and on-site interfacing with internal engineers and resources from other groups and locations.
• Supervision received is mostly administrative, with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
