Job summary

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking an Automation Engineer to support a major laboratory. The candidate should have hands-on experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, and Chef, and with UNIX/Linux/Windows OS, scripting, and data queries.

Responsibilities include building data pipelines and APIs, and integrating data across on‑premises databases and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP). DOE clearance is required; candidates must reside in Albuquerque or relocate by start date.

Qualifications

• BS in a relevant discipline and at least 3 years of related experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
• Must be US-based and able to reside in Albuquerque or relocate by start date.
• Experience with automation technologies such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Strong Python and SQL programming skills.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools (dbt, PySpark).
• 3+ years in data engineering, data pipeline development, and tool evaluation.
• Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and recommend data ingestion and pipeline tools.
• Design and implement data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data.
• Develop and manage data orchestration workflows.
• Design, develop, and maintain APIs to enable data integration.
• Work with on-premises databases and cloud platforms to support data architectures.
• Integrate data pipelines with various applications.
• Collaborate with DBAs, solution architects, and stakeholders.
• Implement and manage data virtualization solutions (Denodo preferred).
• Ensure data quality, security, and compliance throughout the data lifecycle.
• Document processes and architectures for data engineering workflows.
