Automation Engineer
Job Description
The Automation Engineer interprets electrical and piping schematics to develop configuration files and automation scripts that control system operation in a production environment. In this role, you manage configuration updates throughout build and testing phases while troubleshooting issues across software, electrical, and mechanical systems to implement effective corrective solutions. You work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure complex capital equipment operates reliably, efficiently, and safely within a manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities
- Interpret electrical and piping schematics to design and develop configuration files and automation scripts that control production systems.
- Configure, program, and support automation and control systems, including PLCs and related control hardware and software.
- Manage configuration updates throughout equipment build and testing phases, ensuring changes are documented, tested, and properly implemented.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues across software, electrical, and mechanical systems to restore and improve equipment performance.
- Support complex capital equipment by identifying root causes of system faults and implementing robust corrective actions.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and mechanical engineering teams to integrate control solutions into new and existing equipment.
- Review and interpret electrical schematics and system‑level drawings to validate system design and ensure accurate implementation.
- Optimize automation scripts and control logic to improve system reliability, throughput, and maintainability.
- Participate in testing, commissioning, and validation activities for production equipment and automation systems.
- Maintain clear documentation of configurations, changes, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions to support ongoing system support.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands‑on experience in controls or automation engineering, including configuring and supporting complex capital equipment.
- Strong background in electrical engineering and controls engineering.
- Proficiency in PLC programming and automation software.
- Experience interpreting electrical schematics and system‑level drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues across software, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Solid understanding of automation, control systems, and production equipment operation.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals relevant to automation and control applications.

Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing and production environment that involves working closely with complex capital equipment and automation systems. You spend time both at a workstation developing configuration files and automation scripts and on the production floor interacting with electrical, software, and mechanical systems during build, testing, and troubleshooting activities. The position requires regular use of engineering tools, automation software, and access to electrical schematics and system‑level drawings. Work hours typically align with standard business schedules, with additional time as needed during critical build, test, or troubleshooting phases to support production continuity and system reliability.

This is a Permanent position based out of Horsham, PA.
