Job summary

Sterling Engineering in Tremonton, UT is seeking an Automation Engineer to support robotic applications and plant automation. Qualifications

A manufacturing organization is seeking an Automation Engineer to support robotic applications and plant automation. This hands-on role will develop and improve machine control code, implement new equipment, troubleshoot recurring control issues, and lead automation and process-improvement projects that strengthen safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and cost performance.

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and troubleshoot machine control code for new and existing automated equipment.
• Support daily robotic applications, including robot setup, programming, application development, and manipulation.
• Participate in automation projects from concept through implementation, validation, and handoff.
• Manage multiple projects involving existing equipment improvements, new equipment specifications, purchases, and validation.
• Lead automation and process-improvement initiatives that improve quality, productivity, reliability, and cost performance.
• Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis, and ROI analysis for proposed automation solutions.
• Perform root cause analysis to resolve systematic or recurring control issues.
• Develop standard control code strategies and automation standards to improve equipment reliability and system utilization.
• Create and update electrical schematics.
• Support technical staff through equipment training, programming, and troubleshooting.
• Work cross-functionally to complete projects on time and within budget.
• Maintain a safe, clean work area and follow all established safety procedures.
• Work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Automation Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience with robotic setup, programming, applications, and manipulation.
• PLC programming experience, including ladder logic; Allen-Bradley and General Electric experience preferred.
• Experience with industrial control networks, including Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet.
• Familiarity with manufacturing systems, electrical controls, production equipment, and processing environments.
• Knowledge of vision systems, barcode scanners, servo controllers and servo systems, and analog and digital signals.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause analysis skills related to control hardware and software.
• Ability to develop and apply automation standards that improve equipment reliability and performance.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams.
