Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Contribute to project teams on large automation initiatives, while independently managing smaller assigned projects.
- Perform programming, configuration, and engineering tasks for industrial automation systems, including PLCs, DCSs, and HMIs across multiple platforms.
- Support process control engineering activities such as system specification, configuration, and startup for clients including OEMs, end users, and EPC firms.
- Work across diverse industries such as food and beverage, pulp and paper, steel and metals, municipal, high‑purity systems, chemical processing, oil and gas, power generation, and general manufacturing.
- Read and interpret P&IDs and electrical schematics with strong analytical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Conduct I/O checks, field startup, and commissioning activities—independently or within a team—often requiring paid overtime.
- Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and DCS systems during field service and commissioning.
- Perform online programming, system uploads, and downloads on active control systems.
- Interact directly with customers on the plant floor and in meetings; begin taking ownership of automation scope discussions.
- Work within assigned project budgets and timelines; identify scope changes and communicate them to senior automation leads.
- Produce clear technical documentation, project reports, and related engineering deliverables.
- Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) policies and procedures.
- Domestic travel 5–10% for site startups, commissioning, inspections, and customer support activities.
Skill Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college with a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline preferred.
- Intermediate understanding of industrial automation and control systems, including PLCs, DCSs, and HMIs across multiple vendor platforms.
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and automation platforms.
- Strong analytical and detail‑oriented problem‑solving skills.
- Field experience with system commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation.
- Ability to manage work within defined project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Effective communication skills with customers and internal teams.
- Solid technical writing capability for documentation and reporting.
