Job summary

Charles Schwab is seeking an Automation Engineer to ensure software quality and release readiness across critical applications. You will design, develop, maintain, and execute automated test solutions, working closely with development and business teams to strengthen testing practices and automation capabilities.

Leadership opportunities include mentoring junior engineers and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining automated tests with Java-based tooling.
• Experience with Java, Selenium, Cucumber, REST APIs, Oracle, JUnit, Gradle, and Swagger.
• Experience in Windows, Linux, and Unix environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites with high-quality plans and cases.
• Perform defect triage, root cause analysis, and coordinate with development teams.
• Develop test data strategies, evaluate testing risks and improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owners, and technology teams to validate requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Mentor Junior Automation Engineers and promote automation best practices.

Role Summary

Join a team responsible for ensuring software quality and release readiness across critical applications. The Automation Engineer plays a key role in designing, developing, maintaining, and executing automated testing solutions that support application delivery and production stability. Working closely with development teams and business partners, this role provides opportunities to build deep technical expertise, influence testing practices, and improve automation capabilities across the organization. The position also provides leadership opportunities through mentoring Junior Automation Engineers and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites while creating high-quality test plans and test cases aligned to business and technical requirements.


• Perform defect triage, root cause analysis, defect tracking, and partner with Application Development teams to drive issue resolution.


• Develop test data strategies, identify testing risks, recommend mitigation plans, and evaluate opportunities for process and technical improvements.


• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owners, and technology teams to validate requirements and acceptance criteria while building strong technical partnerships.


• Mentor Junior Automation Engineers by providing technical guidance, reviewing testing artifacts, and promoting automation best practices.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining automated tests using Java-based automation frameworks.


• Experience with Java, Selenium, Cucumber, REST APIs, Oracle, JUnit, Gradle, and Swagger.


• Experience working in Windows, Linux, and Unix environments.


• Solid understanding of SDLC principles, testing methodologies, defect management processes, and how applications interact across distributed environments.


• Experience translating business requirements and acceptance criteria into effective test coverage.


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.


• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior automation engineers.


• Familiarity with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle Coherence, Java RMI, and Jira.


• Knowledge of financial markets or financial operations.
