Job summary

General Motors is hiring a Material Handling Automation Engineer to deploy next‑generation automation across its manufacturing network. You will evaluate opportunities, design solutions, and partner with plant teams to implement AMRs, AFTs, and ASRS from concept through launch.

You’ll develop layouts, run simulations, and support ROI analyses, with 25–50% travel and onsite responsibilities. A hands‑on engineer with strong planning will excel in this role.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of automotive manufacturing, automation deployment, or material flow/industrial engineering.
• Hands‑on experience with AMRs, AFTs, or ASRS and related warehouse tech.
• Proficiency with GMOS for indirect labor studies and automation impact.
• Experience with layout/flow tools like AutoCAD or Tecnomatix.
• PLC programming, robotic cell integration, and industrial protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field and up to 50% travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead deployment of material handling automation from concept through launch.
• Identify opportunities to reduce waste, labor, and variability in material flow.
• Conduct labor studies and quantify benefits with plant engineers.
• Develop layouts and simulations to optimize material flow.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and suppliers to drive execution.
• Support feasibility studies, ROI models, and launch documentation.
