Job summary

Amcor Rigid Packaging is seeking an Automation Controls Technician to maintain instrumentation, control systems, and communications across plant production lines. You will troubleshoot, install, diagnose, and repair automation hardware to support GMP, safety, and quality goals.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in Engineering and 7–10 years in a manufacturing setting, with experience in PLC/SCADA and Allen-Bradley systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent with 7–10 years of relevant maintenance experience in manufacturing.
• Experience with industrial communication and PLC messaging.
• Experience in a 24/7 high-volume manufacturing environment is highly desired.
• Knowledge of SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, drives, network switches/routers, and radio communication devices.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and wear PPE.
• Support and maintain automation systems.
• Modify and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and related components (Allen Bradley preferred).
• Assist in installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and components.
• Work with plant personnel on SCADA implementation and control system design.
• Develop and maintain documentation for system architecture and interfacing.
• Plan, schedule, install, monitor, configure, troubleshoot, repair, backup, and upgrade production environments.
• Support preventive maintenance programs and identify improvement opportunities.
• Assist with new equipment installations and system upgrades.
• Ensure safety compliance with lockout/tagout and confined space entry procedures.

Position Overview

The Automation Controls Technician is responsible for maintaining instrumentation, control systems, and electronic communications in support of plant production, quality, GMP, and safety goals. The role includes troubleshooting, operating, and maintaining control systems across production lines, providing technical guidance, installation, diagnostics, repair, and ensuring reliability of industrial control systems and equipment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

• Follow all plant and department-specific safety rules, procedures, and programs, wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Support and maintain automation systems.
• Modify and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and related components (Allen Bradley preferred).
• Assist in installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and components.
• Work directly with plant personnel on SCADA implementation and control systems design.
• Develop and maintain documentation for system architecture and interfacing.
• Plan, schedule, install, monitor, configure, troubleshoot, repair, backup, and upgrade production environments.
• Support preventive maintenance programs and identify improvement opportunities.
• Assist with new equipment installations and system upgrades.
• Ensure safety compliance with lockout/tagout and confined space entry procedures.
• Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and electrical hazards.
• Ensure maintenance personnel are properly trained and aware of safety and health risks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent combination with 7 to 10 years of relevant maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Prior experience with plastic manufacturing technology is strongly preferred.
• Proven record with industrial communication and PLC messaging.
• Experience in a 24/7 high-volume manufacturing environment is highly desired.
• Knowledge of SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, drives, network switches/routers, and radio communication devices.
• Strong knowledge of plastic equipment maintenance.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret technical diagrams and procedures; strong mathematical skills.
• High degree of organizational skills.
• Experience applying advanced methods in PLC, motion controls, and SCADA systems.
• Strong project and time‑management skills with demonstrated ability to complete projects promptly within budget.
• Strong troubleshooting skills; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Pay Transparency Addendum

The pay range for this position is $45.00 to $49.00 per hour.
