Job summary

Alta Equipment Group seeks an Automation Controls Engineer to lead PLC system design for conveyor and automated material handling solutions. You will develop control cabinets, program PLCs, and coordinate BOMs, sourcing, and installation efforts across multi-disciplinary teams.

The role requires 3+ years in electrical engineering, PLC experience with Allen Bradley/Siemens, and travel to customer sites on the East Coast. A strong client liaison and on-site support mindset are essential.

Qualifications

3+ years of Electrical Engineering experience.
2+ years’ experience with troubleshooting and commissioning PLC solutions.
2+ years’ experience developing automation software using Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC hardware and software.
Willing to travel 25–35% to customer sites.
Must be located on the East Coast of the U.S.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Develop control programs and interfaces for conveyor and automated devices; manage control panel builds and electricians.
Collaborate with sales, engineering and project management to design PLC system solutions including ASRS and robotic automation.
Design PLC control cabinets, program PLCs, and support system implementation; generate BOMs and source materials.
Lead technical work for assigned clients and act as liaison during projects; on-site during installations and testing.
Design, develop, test, install and support PLC-based controls on large scale lines with WMS integration (Allen Bradley/Siemens).
