Automation Controls Engineer- Indianapolis, IN

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend project turnover meetings with the sales and project teams.
  • Design building automation systems and create project submittals using project plans and specifications.
  • Write Eikon logic files direct digital control systems and third-party integration.
  • Work with other engineers in completing drawings and design packages while cross checking design details in electrical power, control panels, relay logic, wiring and control devices in association with HVAC.
  • Produce system layouts and controls design based upon construction documents.
  • Write control sequences and coordinate design.
  • Assist with field start-up and checkout, as required.
  • Identify any gaps or ambiguity in the project and submit RFIs as required.
  • Provide programming support to field technicians and specialists.
  • Select and order controllers and devices for projects.
  • Train facility owners/operators.
  • Obtain field markups and revise the submittals with any changes for owner records.
  • Maintain backups of all project documentation including submittals and record drawings on Procore.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Engineering Managers/ Project Managers with recommendation for resolution.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree in related engineering/technology field required. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
  • In lieu of engineering/technical degree, a combination of verifiable DDC specific training and two or more years of experience will be considered.
  • DDC or PLC design experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of low voltage and electrical wiring.
  • Experience in engineering, design or maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of commercial electrical, HVAC, and control theory preferred.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Outlook, Work, Excel, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Visio, and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.
  • Familiarity with building architecture and computer networks.
  • Familiarity with third party equipment integration over protocols such as BACnet/Modbus is a plus.
