Job description

About the Role

Join TAI's Electrical and Controls Engineering Group as an Engineer III and take the lead in detailed electrical and process controls design for diverse projects. You'll drive work across the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design and cost estimation to construction administration and system commissioning, while ensuring compliance with industry codes and coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and perform detailed electrical and controls design and support management of engineering activities.
  • Receive general administrative direction from the division manager and be responsible for process controls design of multiple projects of varying complexity.
  • Research applicable industry standards, prepare engineering studies, analyze systems, and produce preliminary and detailed engineering designs.
  • Develop engineering specifications and project cost estimates.
  • Review work of the project design team, monitor progress, and alert managers to changes in scope and additional services.
  • Coordinate most aspects of project document completion.
  • Direct CAD designers for the preparation of construction drawings.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes.
  • Work independently with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to codes is required.
  • Coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer licensure is preferred.
  • Minimum of Seven (7) years of controls design experience.
  • Ability to communicate with customers to gather critical information.
  • Working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70).
  • Effectively manage multiple ongoing projects and tasks.
  • Assure compliance with company and client CAD standards.
  • Capable of performing field surveys to document existing conditions.
  • Review construction packages from designers for company and department standards.
  • Capable of specifying, designing, programming and maintaining automation control systems for industrial, power, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food & beverage facilities with significant expertise in at least one of the core industries served by TAI.
  • Capable of specifying both digital and analog instrumentation (Level, Flow, Pressure, Temperature, Analytical – pH, LEL, O2, CO, CO2, etc.) and integrating into construction and panel drawing sets.
  • Capable of specifying Electrical Component and Field Devices (combination starters, VFD’s, MCC’s, pushbuttons/selector switches, heat trace, etc.).
  • Capable of designing, reviewing and approving Electrical Construction Drawing sets including instrument location plans, conduit block and network architecture drawings.
  • Capable of designing, reviewing and approving PLC control panel and motor control panel drawings.
  • Capable of specifying and programming control systems including the Rockwell family of processors and HMI’s, programming new applications and modifying existing applications with ample annotation for future reference.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus and other industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience programming Wonderware, IFix, Maple, Delta V, Siemens, Omron, Modicon, Mitsubishi, and Koyo is a plus.
  • Experience programming SCADA and SQL is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to specify control systems for use in hazardous area locations as identified by NFPA 70.
  • Working knowledge of ISA standards and ability to interpret and contribute to development of P&ID.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to design robust safety circuits and specify components of varying industry requirements.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 79.

Candidates must have experience with at least one of the following software:

  • Rockwell RSLogix 5, RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, FactoryTalk View SE & ME, RSlinx, Siemens PLC, Iconics Genesis 64, Design S
  • Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • AutoCAD (ability to open drawings, navigate, edit text, and print)
  • Masterspec
Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay: $90,000–130,000 annually (based upon experience)
