Job summary

Tier4 Group in Dallas, TX seeks a Senior Controls Engineer to lead design, development, and commissioning of automation systems across process industries. You will drive project execution, mentor junior engineers, and maintain strong client relationships.

You will specify, program, test, and support PLC, HMI, SCADA and DCS applications, review electrical and instrumentation packages, and ensure compliance with industry standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, chemical engineering or related field required.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in industrial automation and controls.
  • Experience leading project execution and client-facing activities.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of industrial automation and control system projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for future project support.
  • Design, configure, program, test, and support automation solutions for industrial and process manufacturing environments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering team members.
  • Conduct engineering evaluations, system analyses, and technical studies while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, project documentation, and cost estimates.
  • Oversee project schedules, deliverables, and scope management while communicating changes and risks to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering efforts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Direct the development of construction packages, control panel designs, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop and modify PLC, HMI, SCADA, and distributed control system applications.
  • Support installation activities, system commissioning, startup efforts, and operational handoff.
  • Collaborate with regulatory authorities, contractors, and project teams to resolve technical and code-related issues.

Job description

A growing engineering and automation organization is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to support a diverse portfolio of industrial projects. This individual will play a lead role in the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of automation and control systems across multiple process-driven industries.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in industrial controls, experience leading project execution, and the ability to mentor less experienced engineers while managing client-facing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience programming and integrating industrial automation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA, and process control technologies.
  • Experience developing and reviewing electrical and instrumentation design packages, including network architecture, panel layouts, instrumentation drawings, and motor control documentation.
  • Ability to design, review, and approve industrial control panel and motor control center documentation.
  • Advanced knowledge of modern industrial control platforms and human-machine interface technologies.
  • Experience creating new automation applications and modifying existing production systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related engineering discipline with approximately 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols used in manufacturing and process environments.
