Job summary

Interstates is seeking a Control Systems Developer II to design, program, test, and launch automation solutions that help clients operate more safely and reliably. You’ll apply your control systems expertise from design through startup and implementation.

Based in Des Moines, IA, you’ll collaborate with engineers, project managers, technicians, and clients on various projects, travel up to 35%, and grow your programming, controls, and automation skills through real‑world challenges.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination in engineering preferred.
• Experience programming in industrial environments and startup projects.
• Experience with object oriented programming, UI development, databases, and system integration.

Responsibilities

• PLC programming: develop, test, and implement PLC code for automation systems.
• HMI development: design/configure HMI applications for process control and monitoring.
• Project documentation: create system descriptions, operator manuals, and change logs.
• Team collaboration: work with clients, engineers, and programmers to deliver solutions.
• On-site implementation: commission and launch control systems; provide troubleshooting and training.
• Client interaction: build relationships by communicating professionally and anticipating needs.
• Continuous learning: stay updated on industry trends and technologies.
• Other duties as assigned: adapt and grow with the team.
