Job Summary:

The Automation Controls Engineer will design, program, and test automated manufacturing systems (robotic arms, automated machines), provide engineering support to operations through line support of automated equipment, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment.

Job Duties:

  • Design, program, and test automated production systems.
  • Create small to medium scale automated systems with responsibility for integration of the various platforms.
  • Maintain and update existing automated manufacturing systems.
  • Work with integrators to ensure successful delivery of external projects.
  • Provide general oversight and monitoring of controls machinery – including project coordination for maintenance, upgrades, and repair when needed.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
  • Create written documents, test plans and reports that demonstrate technical rationale for associated decisions (e.g., qualifications, risk assessments, and work instructions).
  • Provide operations department with effective technical support to meet manufacturing quality and quantity objectives.
  • Utilize project management skills to drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize yield, quality, and cycle time.
  • Assist with cost reduction and efficiency initiatives through the implementation of automated processes.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and provide technical solutions via analysis and hands-on interaction with designated processes, including troubleshooting of manufacturing issues when they occur.
  • Assess and monitor manufacturing capacity capabilities and reconcile with demand.
  • Propose capacity improvement recommendations accordingly.
  • Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, and Performance Qualification.
  • Specify tooling, fixtures and equipment required to meet manufacturing capacity requirements.
  • Coordinate efforts associated with planning, procuring, installing, and qualifying controls and automated equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar field, preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience with automation, electrical controls design, and PLC program development ideally in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with programming and integrating robotics, PLCs, ladder logic, pneumatics, sensors, actuators, and vision systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests.
