Job description

The Application Engineer I is responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, testing, and commissioning of industrial automation and control system solutions. This role supports project execution activities while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality customer solutions.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), automation technologies, and industrial control applications. They are a proactive problem solver who works effectively in team environments, demonstrates technical curiosity, and continuously seeks opportunities to expand their expertise. This position is well‑suited for an engineer who aspires to develop into a Lead Engineer or Project Manager role.

This is a hybrid role reporting onsite to Foxboro, MA 2 days per week.

What will you do?

• Design, configure, test, and implement automation and control system applications.
• Develop and maintain DCS control strategies, graphics, alarm management systems, and system documentation.
• Participate in system integration, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, communication, and control system issues.
• Collaborate with project managers, lead engineers, customers, and cross‑functional teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
• Develop and review engineering deliverables including functional design specifications, control narratives, test procedures, I/O databases, and cause‑and‑effect matrices.
• Support customer meetings, technical reviews, and project execution activities.
• Apply engineering standards, quality processes, and cybersecurity best practices throughout project execution.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and share technical knowledge within the engineering organization.

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, process control, or controls engineering.
• Experience working with Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Knowledge of industrial control system architecture, instrumentation, and process automation.
• Experience with system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment.
• Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure™ Foxboro DCS platforms.
• Experience with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP, or Profinet.
• Experience supporting automation and control projects within the Power & Utilities sector, including generation, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, water treatment, or related infrastructure applications.
• Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity practices and standards.
• Exposure to project execution methodologies and customer‑facing engineering activities.

For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD 68,000 - USD 102,000 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short‑term incentives. The compensation range for this full‑time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the pay range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
