Job summary

Southern Controls is seeking an Automation Applications Engineer to join our growing technical team. You will work with industry-leading automation technologies and partner with manufacturers and end users across automotive, manufacturing, food & beverage, and material handling sectors.

Responsibilities include pre-sales demonstrations, architecture recommendations, startup support, and on-site training. Travel within the territory is expected to be day trips with occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in automation/controls industry.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills.
• Experience with PLCs, HMI/SCADA, motion control, networking, safety, machine vision, IIoT, and VFD/servo systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-sales application support including demonstrations and BOM development.
• Provide post-sales support including startup, troubleshooting and system optimization.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

Southern Controls is seeking a highly motivated Automation Applications Engineer to join our growing technical team. This position offers the opportunity to work with industry-leading automation technologies, solve complex customer challenges, and partner directly with manufacturers and end users across a wide range of industries including automotive, manufacturing, food & beverage, and material handling.

We are looking for an automation controls engineer to help with:

• Provide pre-sales application support including product demonstrations, system architecture recommendations, and bill-of-material development.
• Provide post-sales support including startup assistance, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
• In Office General phone/email and on-site product technical support.
• Product training for customers and co-workers.
• Work with Outside Sales staff to provide input for solving applications.

Minimum Experience/Education Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in the automation/controls industry
• Candidates should have excellent problem solving, troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Experience with:
  • PLCs (Examples are Omron Sysmac, Rockwell ControlLogix & CompactLogix, or others)
  • HMI & SCADA Platforms
  • Motion Control & Robotics
  • Industrial Networking

• Travel primarily consists of customer visits within the assigned territory. Most travel is day trips with occasional overnight travel required.

• Willing and excited about learning and supporting new software and hardware products weekly.
