Job summary

Southern Controls Corp is seeking an Automation Applications Engineer to join our technical team. You will work with leading automation technologies to solve complex customer challenges and collaborate with manufacturers and end users across multiple industries.

Responsibilities include pre-sales demonstrations, BOM development, post-sales startup and troubleshooting, on-site support, and training for customers and coworkers. Travel within the territory is required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in automation/controls industry
• Strong problem solving and communication skills
• Experience with PLCs, HMI/SCADA, motion control, robotics, networking, safety, vision, IIoT, drives and servos

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-sales application support including product demonstrations and BOM development.
• Provide post-sales startup, troubleshooting and system optimization support.
• On-site product technical support and office/email support.
• Deliver product training for customers and colleagues.
• Collaborate with Outside Sales to solve applications.

Job Description and Responsibilities

Southern Controls is seeking a highly motivated Automation Applications Engineer to join our growing technical team. This position offers the opportunity to work with industry-leading automation technologies, solve complex customer challenges, and partner directly with manufacturers and end users across a wide range of industries including automotive, manufacturing, food & beverage, and material handling.

• Provide pre-sales application support including product demonstrations, system architecture recommendations, and bill-of-material development.
• Provide post-sales support including startup assistance, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
• In Office General phone/email and on-site product technical support.
• Product training for customers and co-workers.
• Work with Outside Sales staff to provide input for solving applications.

Minimum Experience/Education Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in the automation/controls industry
• Candidates should have excellent problem solving, troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Experience with:
  • PLCs (Examples are Omron Sysmac, Rockwell ControlLogix & CompactLogix, or others)
  • HMI & SCADA Platforms
  • Motion Control & Robotics
  • Industrial Networking
  • Functional Safety Systems

• Travel primarily consists of customer visits within the assigned territory. Most travel is day trips with occasional overnight travel required.
• Experience and skilled in troubleshooting and problem-solving control system and software issues.
• Willing and excited about learning and supporting new software and hardware products weekly.
