Job summary

CDM Smith seeks an instrumentation and controls engineer to create basic to moderately complex designs using 3D/4D methods, including P&IDs and control descriptions. You will assist with PLC programming, HMI graphics and system testing.

You will lead junior staff and may participate in proposals, with domestic and international travel up to 40% to support project delivery. A Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience are required.

Job Description
  • Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D design practices. Assists with specification development. Creates basic to moderately complex human-machine interface (HMI) graphics, programmable logic controller programming (PLC), report development, etc. Assists with testing and startup of control systems.
  • Reviews basic to highly complex component level shop drawings, contractor clarifications. Assist with testing oversight.
  • Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation and control system designs by developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), control system architectures, specifications, and control descriptions (for use in control system programming).
  • Leads staff and provides direction and mentoring for junior staff. Reviews the work of junior staff as necessary.
  • Under general supervision, assists in the preparation proposal sections and presentations, as directed. Supports marketing and new business activities as requested in support the Automation strategy. May participate in proposals.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of instrumentation, controls and related systems designs. PLC and HMI experience required. Excellent communication skills. Strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite of programs. Expert knowledge of 3D and 4D design practices.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Water/Wastewater highly preferred.
  • Experience with an Engineering and/or integration firm highly preferred.

An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.

Pay Range Min

USD $91,478.00

Pay Range Max

USD $160,118.00

Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
