Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an experienced mechanical/facilities engineer to lead the design of complex projects and manage technical delivery from concept through completion.

You will collaborate with sales on proposals, review designs for compliance with codes and standards, and mentor junior staff while advancing sustainability, energy efficiency, and green building initiatives across the practice.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship is required to comply with U.S. government contract requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional engineer (PE) license.
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency depends on duties and project demands.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project and technical delivery for opportunities in the MEP/Facilities market space.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals and review draft proposals for compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Meet with current and potential clients to review their design needs and future requirements.
  • Attend conferences and events to raise visibility of the firm’s products and services.
  • Develop HVAC master planning, HVAC/plumbing systems, and mechanical designs including sustainability/energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Review draft designs for regulatory compliance and sign off on completed designs.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff; may supervise junior engineers on projects.

Job Description

CDM Smith is an engineering and construction firm dedicated to delivering exceptional service and smart solutions for the environment and infrastructure. Our firm works with clients around the world to implement solutions to meet current and future needs. The successful candidate will have significant experience leading and managing the design of mechanical/facilities related projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With high‑level goals provided, create, establish and support client relationships and lead project and technical delivery for opportunities in the MEP/Facilities market space.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs). Review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices. Meet with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
  • Attend conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm’s products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  • Perform other duties as required including developing: HVAC systems master planning & studies; HVAC & Plumbing systems; mechanical systems (co‑generation); sustainability/energy efficiency/renewable energy/green buildings; etc. of basic to high complexity to meet client project requirements.
  • Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and sign off on completed designs. Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff. Mentors more junior staff and develop them for future growth within the discipline and firm. May supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license.
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project management Professional (PMP), design‑Build Institute of America (DBIA) or certified construction manager (CCM) desired.

20% - 40%

USD $115,253.00

Pay Range Max

USD $201,677.00

Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
