Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an instrumentation and controls engineer to design basic to moderately complex I&C systems, develop P&IDs, control architectures, specifications and HMI/PLC programming, and assist with testing and startup.

You will lead and mentor junior staff, support proposals, and participate in marketing and business development; travel 20-40% domestically or internationally as project needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required with 5 years of related experience; equivalent experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Design instrumentation and control systems using P&IDs, control architectures, specifications and control descriptions.
• Develop HMI graphics and PLC programming; assist with testing and startup of control systems.
• Review shop drawings and provide guidance to junior staff; mentor and lead project team members.

Job Description

• Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D design practices. Assists with specification development. Creates basic to moderately complex human‑machine interface (HMI) graphics, programmable logic controller programming (PLC), report development, etc. Assists with testing and startup of control systems.
• Reviews basic to highly complex component level shop drawings, contractor clarifications. Assist with testing oversight.
• Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation and control system designs by developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), control system architectures, specifications, and control descriptions (for use in control system programming).
• Leads staff and provides direction and mentoring for junior staff. Reviews the work of junior staff as necessary.
• Under general supervision, assists in the preparation proposal sections and presentations, as directed. Supports marketing and new business activities as requested in support the Automation strategy. May participate in proposals.
• Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• 5 years of related experience.

Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.

Driving Requirements

An appropriate and valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Water/Wastewater highly preferred.
• Experience with an Engineering and/or integration firm highly preferred.

Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of instrumentation, controls and related systems designs. PLC and HMI experience required. Excellent communication skills. Strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite of programs. Expert knowledge of 3D and 4D design practices.

Amount of Travel Required

20% - 40%

Pay Range

USD $91,478.00 to USD $160,118.00
