Job summary

Shurtape Technologies, LLC in Hickory, NC, seeks an Automation and Controls Engineering Manager to lead the maintenance and development of electrical systems, controls, and automation across the Hickory Complex.

You will supervise automation technicians, oversee capital projects, mentor staff, and help drive plant master plans, while applying Lean or Six Sigma to improve reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the activities of all automation technicians in the Hickory Complex.
• Support manufacturing and maintenance teams in troubleshooting electrical and controls issues, process improvements, and machine optimization.
• Provide support and leadership on capital projects; PLCs, drives, HMI networks, wiring, and documentation.
• Support other capital projects as requested by the corporate engineering director.
• Lead development efforts of plant masterplan for electrical systems, controls, and automations.
• Research equipment, best practices, and emerging technologies to source cost-effective solutions.
• Provide mentorship to Automation and Multi-Craft Technicians.
• Recommend solutions in process optimization using Lean/Six Sigma, DOE, DMAIC.

Summary Of Position

The Automation and Controls Engineering Manager is responsible for planning and overseeing the activities of all automations maintenance employees in the Hickory Complex and will provide overall management of site electrical systems and controls. This includes oversight of electrical infrastructure maintenance upgrades, engineering network architectures and maintenance, process and motor controls, human-equipment interface development and maintenance, development and maintenance of electrical drawings, technical knowledge database, and electrical and controls capital project leadership and support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervises the activities of all automation technicians in the Hickory Complex.
• Support manufacturing and maintenance teams in troubleshooting advanced and complex electrical and controls issues, process improvements, and machine optimization.
• Provide support and leadership on capital projects within areas of focus, provide PLC, drives, HMI network, wiring, and documentation expertise.
• Provide support and leadership on any other capital projects as requested by corporate engineering director.
• Lead development efforts of plant masterplan for electrical systems, controls, and automations.
• Research equipment, best practices, and emerging technologies to source the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions while maintaining flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability.
• Provide mentorship to Automation and Multi-Craft Technicians.
• Recommend solutions in process optimization and improvement teams while using any applicable analytical tool (i.e., Lean/Six Sigma, DOE, DMAIC, Root Cause)
