Job summary

Sonic Systems International is seeking an Equipment Technician for a seasonal role in Wilmington, NC. Training is required in June 2026, with assignments during the Fall 2026 Nuclear Outage Season.

The job involves working in a radioactively controlled environment at nuclear power plants and traveling as needed. Candidates should have a mechanical/electrical background and be capable of working long shifts, in confined spaces, and at heights.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Willing to travel 3–12 weeks per outage season.
• Able to work 10–12 hour days, 6–7 days a week.
• Pass drug and alcohol test at hire and randomly.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Background check clean.
• Experience in automated/robotic environments a plus.
• Mechanical or electrical background a plus.
• Experience reading isometric drawings and navigating nuclear plants.

Responsibilities

• Support and set up complex computerized tooling systems; including networked camera operations.
• Troubleshoot and repair system failures in mechanical/electrical domains.
• Read and interpret isometric drawings; perform walk-downs in nuclear plants as needed.
• Work in confined spaces and elevated heights; operate within hot, controlled environments.

Required for Equipment Technician:

• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to perform both independently and part of a team.
• Accuracy and thoroughness in work.
• UT Level I training is a plus.
• Mechanical and or electrical background is a plus.
• Experience working in an automated/robotic 3D environment is a plus.
• The ability to work in confined spaces and or elevated heights.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Non-US Citizen must hold current work visa or green card.
• Must have a clean background with no outstanding/pending legal charges.
• Must have the ability to pass a drug and alcohol test at time of hire and random.
• Must have a valid driver’s license

Candidates should have previous experience in an automated/robotic environment. Knowledge and experience integrating and setting up complex computerized tooling systems, including network pan tilt zoom camera operations and functionality. Competent in mechanical and electrical problem solving to troubleshoot causes of system failures and complete necessary repairs. Operational knowledge of both wireless and wired communications systems. Must be competent in reading isometric drawings and navigating through the nuclear power plant to walk down components, as needed, using pictures, component labeling, and piping configurations.

Additional required job expectations include the following:

• Must be willing to travel, 3-12 weeks per outage season, as well as travel to Houston or Wilmington for training, and or testing.
• Candidate must be dependable and be able to report to work fit for duty, and on time while working 10-12 hours a day, 6-7 days a week.
• Capable of working in high heat and confined space environments
• Ability to work at elevation (up to 80’ in the air)
• Highly motivated to be successful and help the entire team when in high stress situations.
• Be a self-starter and capable of working in a cohesive team to ensure a successful outcome.
• Should maintain a questioning attitude and have a willingness to listen when given verbal directions/instructions.
• Willingness to learn and take the initiative in new situations and environments.

Work environment for Equipment Technician:

Work will occur in a radioactively controlled environment, with travel to nuclear power plants.

• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to work in heightened environments on or off scaffolds.
• Must be able to wear a harness.
• Must be able to carry 50lbs.
• Must be able to push, pull, lift, climb, and extend as required for the job.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces.
• Must be able to work in high heat environments.
