Job summary

USA SOLVENTUM US LLC in Brookings, SD, is seeking an Automated Controls Technician to maintain and improve plant equipment. You’ll work in a two-week rotating shift and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on drives, PLCs, controllers, and motors, collaborating with engineering and production.

We require an associate degree in Mechatronics or related field (or HS diploma with relevant experience) and strong troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

• Requires 2-year associate degree in Mechatronics Technology, Automation Controls/SCADA or Robotics; or HS diploma with 2 years Electro-Mechanics/Mechatronics/Automation Controls/SCADA/Robotics experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment including AC/DC drives, PLCs, process controllers, motors and drives.
• Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, vendor drawings and manuals.
• Collaborate with engineering and production during troubleshooting, modification, fabrication and repair of equipment and processes.
• Provide technical recommendations for improvement and optimization of plant equipment and processes.
• Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Job Description

As an Automated Controls Technician, you’ll be responsible for

Supporting production operations, ensuring quality standards, and contributing to a safe and efficient plant environment. This role works a 2 week rotating shift (see details below) and includes starting pay of $36.13/hour.

• 1st week: Monday-Tuesday 7am to 7pm; Wednesday-Thursday off; Friday-Saturday-Sunday 7pm to 7am
• 2nd week: Monday-Tuesday off; Wednesday-Thursday 7am to 7pm; Friday-Saturday-Sunday off

Responsibilities include but not limited to

• Performing routine preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment including, but not limited to: AC/DC drives and motors, programmable logic controllers, process controllers, stepper & servo motors and controllers, fire protection equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic devices, and plant support equipment.
• Reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, sketches, vendor drawings and manuals in the performance of this job.
• Working with engineering and production personnel during the troubleshooting, modification, fabrication and repair of plant equipment, utilities, and processes.
• Providing technical recommendations regarding improvement and optimization of plant equipment, utilities, and processes.
• Possessing the ability to clearly speak, understand, and write in English to communicate effectively in both verbal and written contexts.

Required Qualifications

• Possess, or in the last six (6) months of pursuing, a two (2) year associate degree in Mechatronics Technology, Automation Controls/SCADA or Robotics OR Possess a High School Diploma/GED (completed prior to start) and two (2) years of experience in Electro-Mechanics, Mechatronics Technology, Automation Controls/SCADA or Robotics.

Nice to Have Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in Electro-Mechanics, Mechatronics Technology, Automation Controls/SCADA or Robotics.
• PLC programming experience.
• Industrial motor drive controls troubleshooting experience.
• Experience working with electrical equipment.
• Industrial maintenance experience.
• Experience troubleshooting and problem solving in a manufacturing environment.
