Job summary

Actalent in Pacoima, CA seeks an AutoCAD Drafter/Designer to support drafting, manufacturing, and installation of custom architectural shade structures. You will create precise 2D drawings, interpret project requirements, and work with internal teams to prepare designs for fabrication and installation.

Experience in 3D drafting is a plus but not required. The role is onsite, with regular collaboration across PMs, estimators, and installers, and offers a Monday to Friday schedule with benefits

Job Title: AutoCAD Drafter / Designer

This role focuses on supporting the design, drafting, manufacturing, and installation of custom architectural and outdoor shade structures, including awnings, canopies, patio covers, and related products. You will create accurate 2D drawings, interpret project requirements, and collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure designs are fully ready for fabrication and installation. Experience with 3D drafting or modeling is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise detailed 2D AutoCAD drawings based on project specifications, field measurements, and customer requirements.
• Develop fabrication, shop, and installation drawings for custom manufactured architectural and outdoor shade products.
• Review design concepts and ensure all drawings comply with project specifications and established company standards.
• Coordinate closely with project managers, estimators, production teams, and installers throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• Verify dimensions, materials, and construction details for accuracy before releasing drawings for fabrication or installation.
• Maintain up-to-date drawing revisions and organize project documentation in an accurate and accessible manner.
• Assist with material takeoffs and provide drawing-related support to production and installation teams.
• Participate in project meetings and provide drafting support, clarifications, and updates as needed.
• Collaborate with high-end clients’ project requirements and ensure drawings reflect their design and quality expectations.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience using AutoCAD 2D in a professional setting.
• Proven ability to read and interpret architectural, construction, or fabrication drawings.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in dimensions, materials, and construction details.
• Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with project managers, estimators, production teams, and installers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience working in manufacturing, construction, architectural products, metal fabrication, or custom structures.
• Familiarity with shop drawings and fabrication drawings.
• Experience with field measurements and creating as-built drawings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with 3D modeling or drafting (such as AutoCAD 3D, Inventor, SolidWorks, Revit, or similar) is a plus but not required.
• Background in civil, CAD, or construction-related drafting is beneficial.
• Comfort working on projects for high-end clients and complex custom structures.

Work Environment

You will work on-site in an office environment within the CAD department, collaborating closely with a team of approximately five colleagues. The culture is family-oriented, supportive, and collaborative, with everyone helping out where possible and employees treated as valued individuals rather than just a number. The organization works with high-end clients and offers a stable, team-focused setting. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in a business casual dress code. Benefits become available after a qualifying period, and the role includes six paid holidays.

This is a Contract position based out of Pacoima, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
