Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repairs on a City-owned fleet of vehicles and other specialized equipment. This is accomplished by performing routine preventative maintenance and repairs on various vehicles such as heavy and light duty trucks, construction equipment, cars, and lawn & garden equipment; answering telephone; scheduling appointments; providing direction to other employees in the shop; and assisting other employees in the City departments. The person in this position will have considerable experience in diesel engines and equipment. Other duties include maintaining accurate record keeping of maintenance; and securing cost effective pricing on parts & supplies.

Essential Functions

Maintains and repairs vehicles by setting up lift for maintenance on vehicles; changing oil and filters; lubricating chassis; performing required state inspections; maintaining essential parts such as starters, batteries, brakes, radiators, etc.; taking service calls; scheduling for sublet repairs; dropping off and picking up vehicles; and performing miscellaneous repairs such as welding, brazing, and fabrication.

Answers telephones and keeps records by providing accurate information for callers and walk-ins; scheduling maintenance appointments; filling out work orders; and compiling and ordering parts when needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Position typically includes work that requires the direction of occasional, non-regular employees, seasonal employees, interns, and part-time hourly employees.

Work requires contacts with coworkers from other organizational units. Resourcefulness is required to reach or adjust working agreements within departmental procedures and operating needs. Tact and judgment are requirements in obtaining or giving information of a confidential nature.

This job title requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

Minimum Acceptable Training And Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: One (1) year experience.

Valid PA Commercial Driver's License Class B

Valid PA State Inspection License with a Class 7

Must pass a background check, Drug Test and provide a PA Child Abuse Certificate marked "No Record Exist". must be dated within one year from the date of application.

This position is subject to Article 36, Residency Requirements, of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the City of York and the Teamsters Local 776 which currently states that if the City's Codified Ordinances Â

• 165.07 Residency Requirements provides a broader radius/area than what is currently provided by the CBA, than the ordinance language shall control the residency requirements of their membership. Effective May 19, 2022, Ordinance Â
• 165.07(c) was amended by City Council to state "All persons who shall become employed by the City... on or after effective date of this section shall be or become a residents of York County, or any County contiguous to York County (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Hartford, Baltimore, and Carrol Counties), within six months from the date the employee achieves permanent employment status."
