Job summary

The Illinois Tollway is seeking an experienced Auto Mechanic to repair and maintain a range of heavy and light vehicles and equipment used in roadway maintenance. The role requires 4–8 years of mechanical experience, a CDL Class A with air brakes endorsement (within 30 days), and successful completion of the ISTHA Mechanic test.

Candidates must meet rigorous physical requirements and may work varied shifts, including emergency on-call duties. Training will be provided on-site and off-site.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• 4–8 years of mechanical experience in automotive, truck, or equipment repair.
• CDL Class A with air brakes endorsement required within 30 days of employment.
• Must pass ISTHA Mechanic test with 65% passing score.
• Must meet physical requirements (lifting, standing, bending, etc.).
• Must acquire and maintain required Federal, State and Local certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance on Authority automobiles, trucks, tractors, salt spreaders, snow plows, and construction equipment.
• Inspect and test automotive equipment and prepare necessary reports.
• Use Parts & Service Manuals to diagnose and service equipment.
• Attend on-site and off-site training; be available for emergency calls and varying shifts.
• May perform snow/ice control duties and general traffic control as needed.
