Job summary

First Chicago Insurance Company seeks an experienced Litigation Specialist to manage litigated and complex auto liability claims. You will investigate, determine coverage, and work with defense counsel to resolve cases efficiently.

The role requires a college degree or 5+ years of claims adjusting, strong knowledge of legal/medical terminology, and excellent negotiation and communication skills. A licensed adjuster is expected where required by state law.

Qualifications

• College Degree and / or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations where required by state statutes to become a licensed claim adjuster.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigated and/or complex injury claims stemming from Personal Auto and Commercial Auto Liability policies.
• Determine coverage and draft reservations of rights letters.
• Conduct investigations by securing statements and documents (police reports, medical records, photos, appraisals).
• Manage litigation strategies with defense counsel and experts; oversee declaratory judgment actions.
• Maintain diaries on open files and document claim activity per regulations and company policies.
• Present claim evaluations to secure appropriate settlement authority and maintain reserves.
