Position Summary

The General Service Technician must have a mechanical aptitude and be able to perform basic automotive services including mounting and balancing tires, tire repairs, oil changes, vehicle inspections, and other less technical services while delivering an excellent customer experience. They are also responsible for maintaining clean and safe work areas in the tire and service department. The technician may need to advise and sell customers on automotive services and repairs recommended or required for their vehicle.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Learn to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems including brakes, alignments, suspensions, cooling, and electrical.
2. Participate in formal training to stay updated with rapidly changing automotive technology.
3. Change engine oil and filters.
4. Perform tire maintenance and install batteries, headlights, and other small bulbs.
5. Repair flat tires and install wiper blades.
6. Stock and unload tires.
7. Assist fellow technicians in technical activities.
8. Report mechanical repair issues to management.
9. Maintain an organized and clean shop environment.
10. Follow all safety, environmental, and company policies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Valid driver’s license.
• Passion for a career as an automotive technician.
• Willingness to learn and a competitive drive to succeed.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Availability to work flexible hours including days, nights, holidays, and weekends.
• Successful pre-employment background check.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands include extensive standing, walking, pushing, reaching, bending, stooping, and repetitive movements. May involve driving and lifting heavy equipment (>100 pounds). Work may be outdoors with exposure to weather, chemicals, odors, dirt, and dust. Vision requirements include close, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as focus adjustment. Noise levels are usually moderate.
