Role Description

The Autistic Support Teacher is a full-time, on-site position located in Pottstown, PA. This role is responsible for planning and delivering specialized instruction for students on the autism spectrum, aligned with individualized education programs (IEPs) and district curriculum. Day-to-day tasks include designing structured classroom environments, implementing evidence-based strategies for communication, social skills, and behavior support, and adapting materials to meet varied sensory and learning needs. The teacher will collaborate closely with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and support staff to monitor progress, collect data, and adjust instructional approaches. Additional responsibilities include participating in IEP meetings, maintaining accurate documentation, and contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated skills in designing and implementing specialized instruction for students with autism spectrum disorders, including use of visual supports, structured teaching, and social skills training.
• Ability to develop, implement, and monitor IEPs, including data collection, progress reporting, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong classroom management and behavior support skills, with experience using positive, evidence-based strategies and functional behavior assessment principles.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
• Proficiency in differentiating instruction and adapting curriculum to meet diverse academic, social, and sensory needs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; appropriate Pennsylvania teaching certification in Special Education or eligibility to obtain it.
• Knowledge of autism-specific best practices, assistive technology, and relevant educational laws and regulations (IDEA, Section 504, ADA).
• Commitment to inclusive education, cultural responsiveness, and supporting the well‑being and independence of all students.
• Prior experience working with K–12 students with autism or other developmental differences is strongly preferred.
