Job summary

COA Network Inc in South Chicago Heights, IL is seeking a Special Education Teacher for a self-contained classroom serving 8–12 students, including some non-verbal learners. This full-school-year contract role focuses on individualized instruction, IEP goals, and behavior support in a structured setting.

You will collaborate with paraprofessionals and staff, implement de-escalation strategies, assist with toileting when needed, and maintain SPED documentation and family communications.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with required Special Education/LBS endorsement.
• Experience working with students with disabilities; self-contained classroom experience preferred.
• Experience supporting students with autism and/or developmental delays preferred.
• Ability to safely manage behavioral outbursts and use de-escalation strategies.
• Willingness and ability to provide toileting assistance.
• Working knowledge of IEPs and special education requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead a self-contained classroom of approximately 8–12 primary-level students.
• Provide individualized and small-group special education instruction.
• Support students with autism, developmental delays, and communication needs.
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and accommodations.
• Adapt curriculum and instruction to individual learning needs.
• Track student progress and use data to adjust instruction.
• Manage behavioral outbursts and provide appropriate de-escalation support.
• Assist students with toileting and other required daily living needs.
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals, teachers, and related school staff.
• Communicate with families regarding student progress and concerns.
• Maintain required special education documentation and student records.
