Job summary

Devereux New York is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support the Education team at the Red Hook campus. You will assist teachers and residential staff in planning and implementing instructional and residential programs for individual students, ensuring welfare and safety.

The role focuses on maintaining an orderly classroom, guiding students in appropriate behavior on and off campus, and contacting supervisors when crises arise.

Qualifications

• HS diploma with one year of related experience; BA/BS or Associates with one year of related experience preferred.
• Must have a valid NY Driver's License.
• Be flexible, patient, energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor.
• Have a strong passion for working with and helping children and adults with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher and residential staff in planning and implementing instructional and residential programs for individual students.
• Ensure students’ welfare and safety, and maintain orderly classroom and campus environments.
• Guide students in socially appropriate behavior on and off campus; resolve crises and contact supervisor when needed.
