Job summary

ChildServe in Des Moines, IA, seeks an Autism Day Program Assistant to support children aged 2-6, aiding health, skill development and retention in the autism day program. You will work alongside therapists in a play-based setting to help each child meet individualized care goals.

The role is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with a starting pay of $16.04 per hour. A two-year degree is preferred, and you will complete required background checks and a physical exam to ensure safety and

Qualifications

Two-year degree in human services or education preferred.
Must pass fingerprint, child/adult abuse and criminal background checks, and abuse affidavit.
Must pass a physical examination and be able to lift up to 35 lbs; be mobile and able to bend, lift, reach and stand.
Must communicate effectively in reading, writing and English.

Responsibilities

Support children in achieving independence and school readiness through individualized care, learning and play.
Collaborate with therapists and team members to follow care plans and meet therapy goals.
Maintain a safe, consistent and engaging environment; assist with feeding, diapering and toilet training.
Promote communication and social–emotional development using PECS and devices.
Accurately document care and communicate with families, staff and community partners.
