University of California San Diego Health is seeking an Authorization and Scheduling Coordinator (Per Diem) in the Pulmonary Services department. You will handle clinic scheduling, authorization, and billing verification while protecting patient confidentiality.

Employment is per diem with 20% appointment percent and a 20% work schedule of days, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Under Nurse Manager direction, you will coordinate front office duties and triage calls, ensuring accurate

Qualifications

  • Three years of administrative experience.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within 6 months.
  • Proficient computer skills and data entry, especially with charge entry and scheduling.
  • Experience scheduling appointments with judgment and patient needs.
  • Knowledge of various insurance types and authorization process.
  • Understanding of third party payors including federal, state, private health plans.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Medical terminology, preferably pulmonary.
  • Ability to triage calls and refer appropriately.

DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Authorization and Scheduling Coordinator performs and coordinates general front office duties, including clinic and procedure appointment scheduling, authorization, billing verification, completion and coding of billing documents, insurance eligibility and verification, and triaging phone calls while maintaining confidentiality. Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure accuracy and efficiency of scheduling and coordination. May perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of administrative experience.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within 6 months of hire date.
  • Proficient computer skills and data entry experience, especially with charge entry and scheduling.
  • Experience scheduling appointments with proven ability to exercise judgment and make decisions with regard to patient needs.
  • Thorough knowledge and familiarity with various insurance types and the authorization process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of third party payors including federal, state, and private health plans.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Medical terminology, preferably pulmonary.
  • Ability to determine the importance of calls and proper area of referral.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner, both in person and by telephone when dealing with diverse groups of people.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Four-year college degree in a related field.
  • Three to five years of administrative experience in a large complex health care setting.
  • Procedural scheduling experience using Epic OpTime
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $76,692 - $76,692 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $36.73 - $36.73
