Department Information: This position is located in the AHEC Police Department, which provides emergency, non-emergency, technical, and communications support for the Auraria Campus Community.

Essential Functions:

This position provides a communication link for emergency police and administrative services to the Auraria Higher Education Center community, reporting to the Police Communication Supervisor. As a State Services Trainee V, the person selected will receive on-the-job training and formal coursework to perform duties such as:

  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency requests by interviewing, interpreting, analyzing, and prioritizing multiple information sources.
  • Determining appropriate response levels and deploying emergency personnel accordingly.
  • Utilizing and maintaining a two-way radio system to dispatch and monitor patrol activities, ensuring safety.
  • Recording, documenting, and extracting detailed information from various sources, including computer-aided dispatch systems, logs, arrest reports, and records.
  • Training to distribute police reports for administrative and judicial review, and to operate and maintain crime information systems, alarm systems, surveillance equipment, and communication systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Valid Colorado Driver License.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English (written and verbal) due to the impact on safety and security.
  • No felony convictions, domestic violence, or recent alcohol offenses (within 3 years).

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pre-employment background, credit check, polygraph, fingerprint, and drug screening.
  • Must pass physical and psychological exams.
  • Designated as Essential Services, requiring on-duty availability for emergencies.
  • On-call and shift work required, including holidays and weekends.
