Job Summary:

This position is located within the Auraria Campus Police Department (ACPD) on the Auraria Campus. This is a dynamic area surrounded by three sporting arenas and a vibrant urban Downtown experience. The ACPD provides comprehensive law enforcement services, including emergency, non-emergency, technical, and communications support to the Auraria Campus Community as State of Colorado Peace Officers. This role requires rotating shift work, and candidates must be willing and able to work various shifts.

Essential Job Functions:

The Police Officer I position responds to a variety of civil matters as well as enforces applicable local, state, and federal laws. Duties include writing reports; performing preliminary investigations; collecting evidence; responding to various alarms; detecting and arresting wrongdoers; and community policing activities. Auraria Campus Police employ various policing methods including foot, bike and vehicle patrol. Additionally, officers perform crowd management functions at a large number of special events. This position is also required to participate in ongoing training in a variety of law enforcement practices and techniques. Police Officers at AHEC must qualify in firearms proficiency on a quarterly basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of current Colorado P.O.S.T certification.
  • One (1) year of experience in a Police Department.
  • Provide full responses to all required supplemental questions. Your answers will be used as part of the application screening.

Additional Special Requirements:

  • Positions are subject to a background investigation in accordance with the administrative procedures of the State Personnel Director. Physical and psychological evaluations are required in accordance with section 24-31-303 (5)(b), C.R.S.
  • In order to be eligible to apply applicants must possess a valid and unencumbered Colorado Driver License.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a background investigation, demonstrating:
    • No Felony or Domestic Violence convictions
    • No more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver license.
    • No alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and no repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten (10) years.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a background investigation, demonstrating:
    • No Felony or Domestic Violence convictions
    • No more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver license.
