Job description

Office of Mineral Resources – Mineral Income Division

The Mineral Income Division works closely with the State Mineral and Energy Board's (Board) audit section. This division performs collection and accounting of revenue due to the State from mineral leasing activity and production on State-owned lands and water bottoms on behalf of the Board.

The division also generates and processes Payor Registers, which are mailed to various payors for verification of State Decimals. Mineral Income conducts audits of payor companies, including major companies every three years, with auditors based in Houston, Dallas, Texas, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Employees are eligible for flexible work schedules upon hire.

Minimum qualifications include:

  1. Six years of experience in accounting or auditing; OR
  2. Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in relevant fields plus three years of experience in accounting or auditing; OR
  3. A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in relevant fields plus three years of experience; OR
  4. A bachelor’s degree in relevant fields plus three years of experience; OR
  5. A bachelor’s degree plus a CISA or CGAP designation plus three years of experience; OR
  6. An advanced degree in relevant fields plus two years of experience; OR
  7. A CPA, CFE, or CIA designation plus one year of experience.

Experience substitution details are also provided, allowing credit for semester hours earned.

Location & Position Information:

This Auditor Supervisor position is located in Baton Rouge, LA, within the Mineral Income Division of the Office of Mineral Resources. The role involves responsible revenue and compliance auditing of mineral revenue payments, ensuring correct payments per lease agreements, and supervising subordinate auditors. Work is performed independently with oversight from the Audit Director.

Additional duties include:

  • Supervising auditors
  • Performing independent audits of royalty payments and lease data
  • Consulting with geologists, engineers, and attorneys on complex issues
  • Contacting oil company personnel to resolve issues and facilitate collections
  • Assisting in planning and evaluating audit programs
  • Attending industry meetings and resolving audit issues
  • Supporting field auditors during audits
  • Providing information to resolve discrepancies
  • Preparing and reviewing performance plans for staff
  • Other duties as assigned
