Job Title: Manager – Audit and Assurance

Classification: Exempt /Direct Hire

Salary Range: $82,400 – $144,200

Reports To: Partners

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Audit and Assurance Manager to lead and oversee financial statement engagements across a diverse client base. This role requires deep expertise in financial reporting standards, including non-profit accounting, and a strong understanding of professional standards. The Manager will play a key role in client relationship management, team leadership, quality assurance, and strategic planning. This position also includes responsibilities for training, engagement oversight, and pre-issuance quality reviews.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Expertise

• Lead and review all types of financial statement engagements in compliance with applicable standards.
• Maintain expert knowledge of GAAP, non-profit accounting, and Form 990 preparation.
• Oversee the firm’s quality review program and ensure adherence to internal quality assurance protocols.

Leadership & Initiative

• Identify and implement tax planning strategies for clients.
• Manage engagement progress, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure timely delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement in technical skills and firm processes.
• Mentor staff and lead firm initiatives as a committee chair.

Client Relationship Management

• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, especially in complex or sensitive situations.
• Approve engagement letters and audit planning documents.
• Communicate accounting standards and updates to clients as needed.
• Provide clear, constructive feedback to staff and maintain open communication with clients.
• Address client inquiries, billing concerns, and service expectations professionally.
• Represent the firm through writing, speaking engagements, and networking.

Project & Time Management

• Oversee multiple engagements simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
• Balance billable and non-billable hours effectively.
• Create and manage time budgets for extended projects.

Judgment & Decision-Making

• Exercise sound judgment in reviewing complex returns and client deliverables.
• Make independent decisions aligned with firm policies and client needs.
• Evaluate client risk and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Mentor junior and senior staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
• Support hiring efforts and contribute to onboarding and training initiatives.

Process & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with firm policies, billing procedures, and documentation standards.
• Maintain advanced proficiency in firm software and lead internal training sessions.
• Serve as a firm administrator for accounting systems and tools.

Community Engagement

• Participate in networking events and industry groups to enhance the firm’s visibility.
• Contribute to thought leadership through articles and presentations.
• Serve on boards or business groups as a firm representative.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or related field (required)
• CPA or EA designation (required)

Experience

• Minimum of 6 years in tax or audit experience
• Advanced knowledge of tax and accounting principles
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and delegation skills
• Excellent communication and client service abilities
• Effective time and project management
• Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
• Commitment to continuous learning and process improvement

Additional Requirements

• Ability to meet productivity and attendance standards in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other regulations
• Adherence to all firm policies and procedures
