Job summary

NC State University seeks an Audio Visual Technology Student Assistant in Raleigh, NC. This part-time student Temp role supports AV maintenance, setup for study rooms and events, and surplus handling while learning under experienced IT staff.

You will gain hands-on experience maintaining AV equipment, assisting with event setups, and working in a collaborative campus environment with mentoring and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must be actively enrolled at NC State.
• Able to lift at least 35 pounds.
• Approximately 20 hours per week, between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Responsibilities

• Maintain audiovisual technology in classrooms and event spaces.
• Assist users with connecting laptops and AV devices in study and conference rooms.
• Support surplus inventory and equipment disposal as needed.
• Collaborate with event organizers to plan AV setup and provide on-site support.
• Ensure equipment is functioning properly and conduct routine checks.

Essential Job Duties

Audio visual technology maintenance:

What you will learn:

• Broad knowledge of audiovisual technology, basic network and PC troubleshooting.
• Client communication in-person / over email.
• Collaborative work environment and mentorship opportunities.

AV Support and Troubleshooting:

• Assist users in connecting and configuring laptops and other AV devices primarily in group study rooms and conference rooms.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the equipment found in group study rooms and conference rooms.
• Regularly inspect group study rooms for common issues to ensure long term functionality.

Surplus Assistance

• Assist the surplus coordinator with inventory management via regular checks of AV closets and assisting with equipment organization.
• Provide support during surplus equipment disposal. May require light manual labor; i.e. moving boxes, putting AV equipment onto pallets.

Event Support

• Collaborate with event organizers to understand their audio-visual requirements and provide guidance on equipment selection and setup.
• Assist with the operation of audio-visual equipment during events, ensuring optimal sound and visual quality.
• Act as a point of contact for event presenters and speakers, offering technical assistance as needed.
• Some events may be scheduled after hours (post 5pm) and if so schedules can be modified to accommodate after hours event support needs.
