Job summary

The University of Alabama seeks an Audio Visual Technician I to assist in the technical support and installation of instructional facilities across campus. You will monitor calls to the help desk and coordinate AV setups in Bryant Conference Center spaces.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid U.S. driver's license, and basic IT and AV troubleshooting skills. Strong communication and teamwork are essential; lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

  • Basic keyboarding, computing and presentation software skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to transport and set up equipment up to 50 pounds.

Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $19.33 - Midpoint: $24.18 (Hourly N5)

Department/Organization: 500002 - Bryant Conference Center

Job Summary: The Audio Visual Technician I assists in the technical support and installation of all instructional facilities on campus. Monitors and responds to calls to the help desk.

Additional Department Summary: Supports on-site and off-site audiovisual equipment within various meeting rooms, board rooms, and multi-purpose auditoriums in the Bryant Conference Center and other campus venues. Consults with clients regarding audio-visual needs. Documents and communicates information to staff.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge: Basic keyboarding skills. Knowledge of basic computing and presentation software. Experience in computer, audiovisual, and/or network troubleshooting skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions. Effectively work independently and as part of a highly skilled team. Physically capable of transporting and setting up equipment up to fifty (50) pounds. Knowledge of basic programming, networking, or system skills. Knowledge of Analog Way or similar video switching platforms.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree or higher. Three (3) years of IT and/or audio-visual experience. Experience with Crestron DM Systems. Experience with networked audio/Dante systems. Experience with audio mixing consoles and audio mixing concepts. Dante Level 1 Certification, Q-Sys Level 1 certification, or Avixa CTS certification.
