Purpose and Scope
The Audiovisual (AV) Specialist provides technical support, coordination, maintenance, and oversight for audiovisual systems throughout Southeast New Mexico College. The position supports the installation, operation, integration, and continued functionality of classroom, conference room, event, and campus presentation technology. The AV Specialist serves as the College’s internal resource for audiovisual systems and works closely with Information Technology personnel, contractors, vendors, faculty, and staff to ensure reliable and effective technology-supported learning and operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides technical support for audiovisual systems in classrooms, conference rooms, meeting spaces, event venues, and other campus facilities.
- Installs, configures, tests, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots audiovisual equipment, including displays, projectors, cameras, microphones, speakers, control systems, video conferencing equipment, and related technologies.
- Monitors and supports audiovisual projects and system installations to ensure work is completed according to College needs, technical specifications, and established standards.
- Coordinates with contractors, vendors, consultants, and Information Technology personnel regarding system design, installation, integration, repair, upgrades, and warranty services.
- Develops and maintains documentation of audiovisual systems, equipment configurations, warranties, service records, room specifications, passwords, licenses, and vendor information.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of audiovisual equipment, replacement parts, accessories, and related technology assets.
- Conducts routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify equipment issues and reduce service interruptions.
- Responds to audiovisual support requests, diagnoses technical problems, and provides timely resolutions or appropriate escalation.
- Provides technical support for College meetings, presentations, conferences, ceremonies, special events, and other activities requiring audiovisual services.
- Trains faculty, staff, and other users on the proper operation of classroom and meeting-room audiovisual technology.
- Develops user guides, operating instructions, troubleshooting resources, and recommendations for effective equipment use.
- Collaborates with Information Technology personnel to ensure audiovisual systems are properly integrated with College networks, computers, software, security requirements, and communication platforms.
- Evaluates audiovisual needs and recommends equipment, system improvements, upgrades, replacement schedules, and technology standards.
- Assists with purchasing, equipment selection, budget planning, vendor quotes, and the coordination of audiovisual-related contracts and projects.
- Ensures audiovisual installations comply with applicable safety, accessibility, licensing, institutional, and technical requirements.
- Remains current on emerging audiovisual technologies, industry standards, and best practices relevant to higher education.
- Provides courteous and professional technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, vendors, and campus visitors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of audiovisual equipment, control systems, video conferencing platforms, presentation technologies, and related software.
- Knowledge of audiovisual installation, signal flow, cabling, connectivity, system integration, and troubleshooting practices.

Work Environment and Physical Demand
- Ability to install, move, and maintain audiovisual equipment and related components.

- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, reach above shoulder level, and work in confined or elevated areas as necessary.
