Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, label, and document CAT5/CAT6, fiber optic, and other structured cabling systems.
• Maintain low-voltage infrastructure including network cabling, patch panels, telecom equipment, racks, and cable management.
• Assist with installation, maintenance, and support of security systems (surveillance cameras, access control, readers).
• Perform cable terminations, punch-downs, splicing, and connectivity testing for proper network performance.
• Assist with upgrades, deployments, upgrades, and construction projects affecting infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, cabling, wireless, telecom, and hardware issues.
• Maintain documentation of network infrastructure and assets.
• Collaborate with leadership to ensure security, maintenance, and continuous improvement of campus tech services.

Required: Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Electronics Technology, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field; with three (3) years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, network infrastructure, low-voltage systems, electronic security systems, or a related technology support environment. Ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and document technology infrastructure and interpret technical plans, diagrams, and documentation.

Equivalency: Relevant industry certifications and/or demonstrated professional experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, network infrastructure, low-voltage systems, electronic security systems, fiber optics, or related technology environments may substitute for formal education requirements. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience as approved by the Human Resources Department.

Purpose and Scope:

The Technology Infrastructure Specialist assists the Director of Technology Services & Solutions in the installation, maintenance, and support of the College's technology infrastructure. This position performs specialized technical work involving structured cabling, low-voltage systems, network infrastructure, wireless connectivity, telecommunications equipment, and electronic security systems.

The Technology Infrastructure Specialist helps ensure the reliable operation, security, and availability of technology services that support instructional, administrative, and campus operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Installs, terminates, tests, labels, and documents CAT5/CAT6, fiber optic, and other structured cabling systems in accordance with industry standards and College requirements.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs low-voltage infrastructure, including network cabling, patch panels, telecommunications equipment, equipment racks, cable management systems, and telecommunications closets.
• Assists with the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventive inspection of campus security systems and related infrastructure, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, card readers, door hardware, and other security technologies, to ensure reliable operation and minimize service disruptions.
• Performs cable terminations, punch-downs, splicing, and connectivity testing to ensure proper network performance.
• Assists with technology infrastructure upgrades, equipment deployments, network expansions, and technology-related construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects.
• Troubleshoots and resolves infrastructure-related connectivity, cabling, wireless, telecommunications, and hardware issues.
• Maintains accurate documentation of network infrastructure, cable layouts, and technology assets.
• Collaborates with the Director of Technology Services & Solutions to ensure reliable operation, security, maintenance, and continuous improvement of campus technology infrastructure and services.
• Assists with the installation, maintenance, and support of network switches, wireless access points, and other infrastructure equipment supporting campus operations.
• Monitors and maintains telecommunications rooms, network cabinets, and infrastructure equipment to ensure proper organization, functionality, and environmental conditions.
• Provides technical support and customer service to faculty, staff, and vendors regarding infrastructure-related installations, repairs, and service requests.
• Maintains compliance with applicable safety standards, building codes, manufacturer specifications, and College technology policies and procedures.
• Stays current on emerging infrastructure technologies, industry best practices, and security trends to support continuous improvement of campus technology services.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems using cable testing equipment, diagnostic tools, and infrastructure documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, floor plans, and other technical documentation while maintaining accurate records and documentation.
• Ability to perform physical installation tasks requiring lifting, climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
• Knowledge of structured cabling standards, installation practices, testing procedures, low-voltage infrastructure systems, and telecommunications equipment.
• Knowledge of networking and electronic security systems, including Ethernet connectivity, switches, patch panels, network components, surveillance systems, and access control technologies.
• Knowledge of technology infrastructure documentation, asset management practices, and applicable safety standards and procedures related to technology installations.
• Skill in providing effective customer service and communicating technical information to faculty, staff, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to prioritize and complete multiple infrastructure projects and service requests while meeting deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

• Work is performed in offices, classrooms, technology rooms, construction areas, and outdoor environments

• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, working in confined spaces, and climbing ladders

• May be exposed to dust, electrical components, and construction-related conditions and must adhere to established safety procedures and use required protective equipment
