Job summary

GBH Archives offers a part-time paid internship as part of the Aspire Works Internship program, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week and compensation of $17 per hour. The role emphasizes hands-on cataloging, Python tooling development, and mentorship within a collaborative GBH Archives team.

Dates run Sept 14 to Dec 4, with hybrid work requiring onsite presence on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Candidates must have access to their own computer and participate in Aspire Program activities.

Qualifications

• Experience with asset management systems, database systems, and/or cataloging.
• Working knowledge of archival principles for arrangement, description, and access; name authority control is a plus.
• Interest in data processing or software development; Bash shell and Python are a plus.
• Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform item-level cataloging of videos in the American Archive of Public Broadcasting.
• Test, compare, and evaluate new iterations of cataloging software and workflows.
• Explore new approaches to large scale authority control related to crediting contributors to television and radio productions.
• Become acquainted with the PBCore metadata schema.
• Meet and receive mentorship from GBH Archives staff.
• Develop and improve Python-based tooling for viewing and analyzing new catalog data.
