Job summary

Gateway Studios & Production Services seeks a senior Audio Technician Level 3 to oversee planning, execution, and quality of live events, broadcasts, or studio productions. This role demands expertise with digital/analog consoles, DSPs, and networked audio to deliver flawless sound across venues.

You will mentor junior technicians, coordinate touring crews, and uphold safety and technical standards while collaborating with the Director of Audio to meet client expectations.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in audio engineering, AV technology, or related field.
• Familiarity/Certification with Dante or other audio networking protocols (Milan/Ravenna).

Responsibilities

• Design and configure complex audio systems including mixing consoles, stage boxes, DSPs, wireless systems, and digital audio networks.
• Collaborate with Director of Audio and touring crew to execute detailed audio plans.
• Supervise and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 audio technicians; providing training and technical guidance.
• Set up, operate, and strike audio equipment including digital/analog mixing consoles, microphones, wireless systems, monitors, intercoms, and playback devices.
• Perform and lead sound checks, monitor levels, and adjust audio throughout events or productions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve advanced audio issues in real time.
• Interpret and execute audio plots, input/output lists, and signal routing diagrams.
• Maintain and update audio equipment inventory, including performing basic repairs or preventive maintenance.
• Mentor and supervise Level 1 technicians and assist with onboarding or training.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and technical standards.

Position: Audio Technician Level 3

Summary

The Audio Technician Level 3 is a senior‑level role responsible for assisting in planning, execution, and oversight of all audio‑related aspects of live events, broadcasts, or studio productions. This individual is expected to manage complex audio systems, coordinate teams, and ensure flawless sound quality across a variety of settings. The role includes high‑level troubleshooting, system design input, and mentorship of junior technicians.

Essential Functions

Major Responsibilities:

Prep Audio

• Design and configure complex audio systems including mixing consoles, stage boxes, DSPs, wireless systems, and digital audio networks.
• Collaborate with Director of Audio and touring crew to execute detailed audio plans.
• Supervise and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 audio technicians; providing training and technical guidance.

Quality Control And Testing

• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and storage of audio equipment.
• Troubleshoot advanced issues and elevate issues as needed to Audio Director.
• Test audio equipment for functionality and performance.

Teamwork & Communication

• Communicate with the Director of Audio and coworkers throughout the project and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Ability to work in teams and assist others in delegation / task completion.

Organization

• Documentation of equipment configurations.
• Archival of client show files and system configurations.
• Help maintain warehouse organization and cleanliness.
• Maintain equipment software and firmware versions.

Safety

• Ensure workplace safety and efficiency.
• Follow proper safety protocol at all times.
• Wear proper PPE at all times, based on the scope of work.

Attendance

• Attendance is an essential requirement for this position

Education/Certificates

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in audio engineering, AV technology, or related field.
• Familiarity/Certification with Dante or other audio networking protocols (Milan/Ravenna).

Experience

• 4-6+ years of experience in live sound, studio recording, theater production, or AV support.
• Highly proficient in operating digital and analog audio consoles (e.g., Avid, DiGiCo, Allen & Heath, Yamaha).
• Expert level knowledge of audio system tuning, signal flow, gain staging, EQ, and dynamics.
• Experience with wireless microphone systems, monitor mixes, and live sound reinforcement.
• Strong leadership and problem solving abilities.

Skills / Abilities

• Ability to work under a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions.
• Ability to operate a forklift preferred.
• Troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to work within a team, lead when necessary, and remain professional under pressure / high stress situations.
