Job summary

Chico State Enterprises is seeking an audio technician to perform general theater and venue stagehand duties. Work hours vary with artist load-in/load-out schedules, theater use, and performance calendars.

The position requires independence, strong communication, and the ability to work under pressure, with opportunities to collaborate with video, lighting, and front-of-house staff.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of basic stagehand/theater experience with emphasis in audio reinforcement and sound systems.
  • Set up and test audio equipment before performances.
  • Perform routine maintenance on audio equipment and systems.
  • Produce sound effects, audio effects, or music based on design and director specifications.
  • Familiarity with multiple audio mixing consoles preferred.
  • Enhance sound quality and volume during live performances.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve potential issues during live performances.
  • Research new audio equipment and trends.
  • Collaborate with other show and production departments including video, lighting, communications, carpentry, and front-of-house staff.
  • Assist with the load-in and load-out of shows.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate calmly, effectively, and professionally to resolve conflicts, ask informed questions, and relay information to others.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects concurrently, and meet production requirements and deadlines.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Basic knowledge of rigging.
  • Experience supervising stagehands.

$23.00 - $29.00 per hour

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
  • One to two years of prior basic stagehand/theater experience, with an emphasis in audio reinforcement and sound systems (design, set up, application, and rigging).
