Position Summary
We are seeking a strategic, audience-focused editor to join our team. The Audience Editor will be responsible for growing, engaging, and deepening relationships with our audiences across digital platforms. This role sits at the intersection of editorial, community engagement, and analytics — ideal for someone who is passionate about using data, creativity, and mission-aligned strategies to connect journalism with the people it serves.
Key Responsibilities
• Digital Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement audience growth strategies across social media, email newsletters, SEO, podcasts, live streaming, and other platforms.
• Content Distribution: Optimize headlines, images, and copy for social and search platforms; schedule and post content to reach targeted audiences.
• Engagement: Foster dialogue with our community online, moderate comments, respond to feedback, and represent the content team in digital spaces.
• Analytics & Reporting: Monitor and analyze key audience metrics; produce regular reports to inform content team decisions and measure progress against goals.
• Collaboration: Work closely with producers, managers, and the development team to align audience engagement with editorial priorities and fundraising campaigns.
• Innovation: Test new tools and tactics for distribution and engagement, staying current with trends in nonprofit media and digital journalism.
Requirements
Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience in content production, digital journalism, audience engagement, or social media strategy
· Strong editorial judgment and excellent writing/editing skills
· Experience with audience analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Parse.ly, CrowdTangle, Chartbeat)
· Proficiency in social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, Later)
· Familiarity with SEO best practices and newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Substack, etc.)
· Passion for journalism that serves the public good and an understanding of nonprofit media dynamics
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Preferred but Not Required
· Experience with multimedia content (e.g., video, audio, graphics)
· Knowledge of HTML, CSS, or basic CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress)
· Background in community engagement or journalism serving marginalized communities
