Job summary

Dallas County, Texas is seeking an attorney to provide a full range of legal services to indigent defendants across misdemeanor, felony, family, juvenile or mental health cases. You will evaluate cases, advise clients, relay plea offers, and represent clients in jury trials and hearings with oversight based on experience.

The role requires graduation from an accredited law school and Texas bar admission, with at least one year of practice.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school with a license to practice in Texas.
• One year of legal experience required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate appointed cases by reviewing documents and researching applicable law.
• Interview clients and witnesses; explain legal processes to inform status.
• Draft, file and respond to motions and other legal documents for trial or hearing.
• Present evidence and material for trial; conduct direct and cross-examinations.
• Participate in plea negotiations and ensure signatures and filings are completed.
• Maintain client files and prepare trial notebooks; track caseload dispositions.
• Train or assist Attorneys I and II; perform other duties as assigned.
