Job summary

BCG Attorney Search is recruiting an experienced litigation attorney for a Public Entity Defense practice in El Segundo, CA. The role offers meaningful litigation experience, direct client interaction, and courtroom exposure with a clear path toward long-term career growth.

The candidate will manage a public entity civil litigation caseload, draft pleadings and motions, conduct legal research, and take/defend depositions. Hybrid work options are available, with mentorship from senior attorneys.

Qualifications

• Active California State Bar license.
• Minimum 3 years of civil litigation experience.
• JD from an accredited law school.

Responsibilities

• Manage a public entity litigation caseload from inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and prepare written advocacy.
• Take and defend depositions, including fact and expert witnesses.
• Attend court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences.
• Develop case strategy in collaboration with partners and senior attorneys.
• Mentor junior attorneys and support staff as appropriate.

Duties

• Manage a public entity litigation caseload from inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and prepare written advocacy.
• Take and defend depositions, including fact and expert witnesses.
• Attend court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences.
• Develop case strategy in collaboration with partners and senior attorneys.
• Communicate effectively with public entity clients, risk managers, carriers, experts, and opposing counsel.
• Evaluate liability, damages, and litigation risk.
• Analyze and apply immunities, statutory defenses, and governmental liability principles.
• Maintain accurate billing and case management records.
• Mentor junior attorneys and support staff as appropriate.

Requirements

• Active membership in the California State Bar.
• Minimum of 3 years of civil litigation experience.
• Strong legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to independently manage cases while working collaboratively within a team environment.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Experience in Public Entity Defense, Government Tort Liability, Civil Rights Defense, Law Enforcement Defense, Premises Liability, General Liability, Employment Litigation Defense, or Insurance Defense Litigation is highly preferred.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
