Job summary

Haight Brown & Bonesteel LLP seeks an experienced attorney for our Orange County (Irvine) office to defend trucking, transportation, and general liability matters in state and federal courts across Southern California.

You will handle depositions, draft and argue motions, and coordinate directly with clients and carriers. You will contribute to trial teams, manage multiple cases, and advance mentorship while not performing routine administrative tasks.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in California.
• Ability to take and defend depositions without close supervision.
• Strong research and writing skills with sound legal judgement.

Haight Brown & Bonesteel LLP has defended California civil litigation since 1937. Five offices, one state, and eighty-nine years of the same business: defending cases and trying them when they need to be tried.

We are hiring an attorney for our Orange County (Irvine) office to defend trucking and transportation, general liability, construction defect, and fire litigation matters in state and federal courts throughout Southern California.

We do not hire by class year. We hire by what you can already do. The attorney we want can be handed a file and run it. You should be able to take and defend depositions of plaintiffs and experts without supervision, draft and argue substantive law and motion, communicate directly with clients and carriers, and carry real responsibility on a trial team.

Haight has tried cases since the day it opened, and we develop trial lawyers the only way it works, by putting them in front of witnesses. Associates here prepare cases for trial, sit second chair, and take witnesses of their own. You will speak with your clients and carriers directly rather than through a partner. Responsibility arrives early, and so does the mentorship to handle it.

Strong research and writing are required, and so is judgment about what matters in a file and what does not. You will carry several cases at once in a fast-moving practice, alongside experienced support staff and current litigation technology. You will not be doing your own administrative work.

Annual base salary: $155,000 to $195,000, set by demonstrated ability and level of responsibility rather than tenure, plus a $20,000 annual bonus for attorneys who exceed the firm’s quarterly billable hour requirements.
